Collaborative Journey to Growth with Mentorship

I didn’t know to ask for a mentor early on.

Becoming someone’s mentee often happened by chance.

Either the mentor was committed to giving back and helping others.

Or we were already developing a mutually beneficial relationship.

But at some point, they made an intentional decision to help me.

How so?

By sharing what they learned from years of experience.

This saved me from learning the hard way.

This also helped me approach my goals with accountability.

Committing to be a mentor takes time.

There’s no guarantee that the mentee will take the advice.

There’s no guarantee that goals will be achieved by a set time.

But when it works out, the mentor and mentee celebrate the win together.

The teamwork and collaborative journey to growth are worth it.

What’s your experience with a mentor-mentee relationship? Let me know below.

How do you Learn about your Favorite Products?

How do you learn about your favorite products?

Product awareness is critical to a product’s success.

The process starts early.

Even before the customer decides they need the product.

Why is that?

Because initial communications teach customers how they may benefit from using the product.

The messaging is about the problem solved and the value delivered.

It isn’t just about the product itself.

Here are some considerations to generate product awareness:

➡️ How will customers learn about the product?
➡️ Which benefits should customers know about?
➡️ Where can more information be found?
➡️ Why is the product better than the competitor’s?
➡️ Which channels will be used for promotion?
➡️ Where can customers engage with the brand?
➡️ How and where will the product be sold?
➡️ Where do customers share feedback?

What helps you learn about a new product?

How to Future-Proof your Product Management Skills

Thinking about how to future-proof your product management skills?

You’ve probably seen the traditional Venn diagram of customer, technology and business.

But the evolution of product management supports a broader, more cross-domain view per Gartner.

As product management roles become more focused on outcomes and strategic planning, there will be a greater emphasis on bringing the “voice of the customer” and an “outside-in” perspective to the business with customer data analytics and insights.

Here are some of the top skills for product managers:

➡️ Storytelling
➡️ Empathy
➡️ Whole-product experience
➡️ Strategic alignment
➡️ Data insights
➡️ Discovery and validation
➡️ Customer value projection
➡️ Outcome ownership

Modern problems require business transformation

Modern problems are complex and require businesses to transform.

This means integrating technology across the organization, changing processes and ways of working, and delivering value to customers differently.

What are some ways to keep pace with the change?

💡Agile – Agile methodologies follow an iterative approach, allowing components to be designed, developed and tested throughout the process. Value is delivered to customers continuously. This helps organizations respond quickly to the changing market conditions and increase customer satisfaction.

💡Product Management – Product professionals are change agents to help organizations navigate new priorities and make product decisions that will best serve the customer – now and in the future. Product Management drives business outcomes like retention, growth, and innovation.

💡Cross-functional collaboration – Transformation initiatives require buy-in from across the organization and collaboration is needed to connect the work and priorities of the business to teams like engineering, marketing, sales, and operations. Siloed teams are no longer the answer.

What other practices do you use to drive transformation?
